Default Diarrhea after iliectomy

I recently entered the hospital because of a very slow heart rate. They installed a pacemaker but the next day I learned that part of my colon had died because of lack of oxygen (Ischemic Colitis). The doctor performed an emergency iliectomy eight days ago. I was discharged from the hopsital yesterday am now recovering at a rehab facility. Yesterday the nurses informed me that I needed to wear diapers because I was having diarrhea. I thought I would no longer have any stool from the rectum after this operation. Is this normal? My daughter is trying to contact the surgeon but he is very difficult to reach now that I am no longer in the hopsital. Thank you for any help or advice you can provide.
